LFT stands for Liver Function Test.
It measures various enzymes, proteins, and substances in your blood to check how well your liver is working.
The extended version includes extra parameters beyond the basic LFT, and GGTP (Gamma-Glutamyl Transferase) is added to give more detailed information about liver and bile duct health.
Your doctor may order an Extended LFT with GGTP to:
Detect liver diseases (hepatitis, cirrhosis, fatty liver).
Monitor alcohol-related liver damage.
Identify bile duct obstruction.
Check for side effects of medicines that may harm the liver.
Evaluate jaundice and abnormal liver imaging findings.
Fasting 8–10 hours may be advised for accurate results.
Avoid alcohol for at least 24 hours before the test (alcohol can temporarily increase GGT).
Tell your doctor about any medicines you take (some drugs affect liver enzymes).
