What is the LH Test?

The LH test measures the amount of luteinizing hormone in your blood.
LH is made by the pituitary gland and plays a key role in reproduction.


Role of LH

  • In Women:

    • Triggers ovulation (release of a mature egg from the ovary).

    • Stimulates the ovaries to produce estrogen and progesterone.

  • In Men:

    • Stimulates the testes to produce testosterone.


Why is it Done?

In Women

  • To investigate irregular or absent periods.

  • Evaluate infertility.

  • Detect menopause or premature ovarian failure.

  • Monitor ovulation timing for pregnancy planning.

In Men

  • To find the cause of low testosterone or infertility.

  • Check for testicular failure.
