๐Ÿงช Liver Function Test (LFT) โ€“ Overview

A Liver Function Test (LFT) is a blood test panel that checks how well your liver is working by measuring enzymes, proteins, and bilirubin levels.

โœ… Key Components of LFT

1. SGPT (ALT โ€“ Alanine Aminotransferase)

  • Normal Range: 7โ€“56 U/L

  • Elevated in hepatitis, fatty liver, or alcohol damage

2. SGOT (AST โ€“ Aspartate Aminotransferase)

  • Normal Range: 5โ€“40 U/L

  • Also found in heart and muscles, not liver-specific alone

3. Alkaline Phosphatase (ALP)

  • Normal Range: 44โ€“147 IU/L

  • Raised in bile duct obstruction, bone disease

4. Gamma-Glutamyl Transferase (GGT)

  • Detects alcohol-related or bile duct liver problems

5. Total Bilirubin (Direct + Indirect)

  • Normal Range: 0.1โ€“1.2 mg/dL

  • High in jaundice, hepatitis, liver failure

6. Total Protein

  • Checks overall protein levels made by the liver

7. Albumin

  • Major protein made by the liver; low in liver or kidney disease

8. Globulin

  • Other blood proteins, often measured with albumin

9. A/G Ratio (Albumin/Globulin Ratio)

  • Helps assess liver synthetic function
